Los Angeles- Most Densely Populated City of California
Los Angeles or the Angels as you might call it in Spanish, is the most densely populated city in California and the second most populated city in the United States, but second to New York City, with a total population of 3.8 million. The city happens to be one of the most diversely multicultural counties in the world. The city’s people are famously referred to as Angelinos.
Los Angeles is almost always called by its initials, LA, and also universally nicknamed the City of Angels. The city is the world hub for business, global trade, entertainment, traditions and customs, media, style, science and technology, and education. It houses world class institutions that provide training in every field possibly known to man and has been producing professionals that provide services throughout the world. It has also been ranked as the third most rich and the fifth most powerful and influential city of the world.
As it is known to most of us, LA is also the home for Hollywood which has led the city to its title of the “Entertainment Capital of the World”. The city itself is the wondrous centre for the creation of motion pictures, television productions, video games, and music. The significance of the entertainment business to the city has made it compulsive for many celebrities and all other media personalities to call Los Angeles and its adjoining suburbs home.
Talking about the history of Los Angeles, it was founded on September 4, 1781 by a governor named Felipe de Neve, who was known to be of Spanish descent. The city was a part of Mexico in 1821 after the Mexican War of Independence took place. In 1848, by the time the Mexican–American War ended, Los Angeles and the rest of California were bought as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, by way becoming part of the United States itself.
Los Angeles is divided into almost 80 individual districts and neighborhoods, out of which most were previously integrated places or communities that were annexed by the city. There are also a few self-governing cities around Los Angeles, but they are generally included under the name of Los Angeles.
Los Angeles is an unevenly shaped city that covers a total area of approximately 498.3 square miles. As the city has a very irregular geography, the land is both full and hilly. In fact, LA is the only major city in the United States that is divided by a mountain range.
The average annual temperature is 66 °F during the day time and 57 °F at night time. The Los Angeles region is loaded with native plant species because of the diversity of habitats, which comprise of beaches, wetlands, and mountains. Names of some of the famous native plants are California poppy, matilija poppy, toyon, Coast Live Oak, and Giant Wildrye.
Some of the world renowned landmarks of Los Angeles include Walt Disney Concert Hall, Kodak Theatre, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, Hollywood Sign, Hollywood Boulevard, Capitol Records Tower, Los Angeles City Hall, Hollywood Bowl, Dodger Stadium, and La Placita Olvera.
